Action 48

I establish realistic expectations and learn to give up and to disengage from blocked, unattainable and insoluble goals. I check my expectations against the expectations of my family members. I ask myself the following Hinge Questions:

“What is the smallest change I can make in this area?”

“What is one thing I can accomplish today that can help me achieve my short-term goal of . . . ?”

I recall how I have achieved my goals in the past and apply those skills now. I can ask myself “what” and “how” questions.

  • “What did I do in the past?”
  • “How did I do that?”
  • “What do others do to handle this situation?”
  • “How do they pull it off?”
  • “What do other people see as my strengths and how can I use these strengths to handle this situation?”
  • “What is it that I can do differently to change the situation?”
  • “What is one thing that I can accomplish today that can help me achieve my short-term goal of . . . ?”
  • “How can I adapt myself to this situation?”
  • “How can I avoid high-risk situations in the future?”
